Definition

FDP; Fibrin or  fibrinogen is proteolytically degraded into fibrin degradation products (fibrinolysis).  Plasmin, a major extracellular serine protease, plays a role in this process. Fragments D and E are major fibrin degradation products. Fragment D contains C-terminal globular domains (γC of the γ chain and βC of the β chain). Fragment E contains the central portion of fibrinogen.
