Definition
An ADMET Screen is the application of a group of experimental assays to measure characteristics of a drug candidate in order to predict the Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion, and Toxicity properties of that drug.
Characteristics
ADMET is an abbreviation for Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion, and Toxicity. The term ADMET is often loosely used to denote those properties required for an orally active drug that are apart from the inherent biological activity of the drug. In a stricter sense the term ADMET denotes the properties denoted by the abbreviation that are the focus of specialized knowledge in the fields of medicinal chemistry, drug metabolism, pharmaceutical sciences, and toxicology. The five properties in ADMET can be determined experimentally and to some degree computationally.
