Abstract
Noteworthy uranium occurrences are located mainly in Cornwall and Scotland (Fig. 20.1), but uranium mineralization is also reported from other parts of the country. Deposits in Cornwall are of vein type, and in Scotland of small vein-, sandstone-, phosphate-, and surficial type. Most are located in terrane intruded by Hercynian and Caledonian granitic batholiths. Some mining of uranium, mainly as a by-product, took place in Cornwall during the 1800s and early 1900s (see below). Total tonnage produced is reported as 1440 t U (Willis-Richards and Jackson 1989).
