Bridgman–Stockbarger technique

a process for synthesizing gemstones, by Bridgman–Stockbarger, in which a crucible, containing the pure melt, is slowly lowered into the cooler part of a special furnace. Crystals begin to grow as the temperature falls. The method is used to make laser crystals and, frequently, gemstones.
