Short Definition

Verification is the process of ensuring that numerical simulation results are a sufficiently accurate representation of the exact solution to a mathematical model.

Introduction

Mathematical models are used in science and engineering to describe the behavior of a system. In many cases, these models take the form of partial differential equations (PDEs) which require numerical solutions (i.e., simulations) due to their complexity. Verification and validation provide a means for assessing the credibility and accuracy of mathematical models and their subsequent simulations [1–3]. Verification deals with assessing the numerical accuracy of a simulation relative to the true result of the model.
