Ilya Prigogine (1917–2003) was honored with the 1977 Nobel Prize in chemistry for his work on non-equilibrium thermodynamics. He was born in Moscow but moved to Belgium in 1929, where he studied and worked at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, especially on dissipative structures. (M 49675)
