Johannes Robert Rydberg (1854–1919) was a Swedish physicist educated at the University of Lund {see planet (809)} who held the chair of physics from 1901 to 1919. He is well-known for the Rydberg constant, which appears in a spectroscopic expression that relates the various lines in the spectra of chemical elements. (M 39655)
