Discovered 1914 Apr. 20 by F. Kaiser at Heidelberg.

Named in honor of the Russian astronomer Feodor Alexandrovich Bredichin (1831–1904) who was director of the Pulkovo Observatory. He made important contributions to the study of comets. (H 78)

Bredichin is also honored by a lunar crater.
