Discovered 1914 Jan. 24 by F. Kaiser at Heidelberg.

Named by the discoverer in memory of Johann Gensfleisch (Gutenberg) (1400?–1468) who discovered the art of printing from movable types. He lived and died in Mainz and the neighboring Eltville. (H 78)

Gutenberg is also honored by a lunar crater.
