(507) Laodica

Reference work entry

Discovered 1903 Feb. 19 by R. S. Dugan at Heidelberg.

Named for a daughter of Priam and Hecuba {see planets  (884) and  (108)}. She fell in love with Acamas {see planet  (2594)}, son of Theseus and Phaedra {see planet  (174)}, when he and Diomedes {see planet  (1437)} came from the Greeks to demand the restoration of Hellen. (H 54)

The planet is not named by the discoverer. It had previously been observed by A. Charlois in Nice, but lost. The name appeared when an ephemeris was published.
