Named in honor of Robert Connelly, mathematician at Cornell University. A specialist in geometry, Connelly has made significant contributions to the theoretical interpretation of optical lightcurves and radar echo power spectra. His work has provided an important foundation for asteroid radar imaging and astrometry, and it has established a valuable framework for using radar data to derive joint constraints on an asteroid’s shape, rotation and delay-Doppler trajectory.
