(3999) Aristarchus

1989 AL. Discovered 1989 Jan. 5 by T. Kojima at Chiyoda.

Named by the Minor Planet Names Committee for one of the earliest (3rd century B.C.) astronomers of the Alexandrine school, known for his belief that the earth revolved around the sun. (M 19335) Aristarchus is also honored by a lunar crater.
