Named in honor of Joseph M. Boyce, planetary scientist at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. A leading investigator of the cratering record of the surfaces of planets and satellites, his detailed studies of the small craters on the lunar plains are the foundation for our present knowledge of the ages and sequence of volcanic eruptions on the Moon.
