Discovered 1886 Apr. 5 by J. Palisa at Vienna.

Named for the native province of the discoverer. There was an Austrian and a German part of Silesia, bordering the Sudeten mountains and the valley of the upper Oder river. The region nowadays chiefly belongs to northern Czechoslovakia and southwestern Poland. (H31)
