Named in memory of Krzysztof M. Serkowski (1930–1981), an astronomer distinguished particularly in the fields of interstellar polarization and the development of astronomical instrumentation. Despite a debilitating illness during the last eight years of his life, he remained actively working and maintained a serene and courageous attitude. (M 8541)
