Definition
AP2α is a member of transcription factor AP-2 gene family that consists of three different genes. AP-2 is shown to have important functions in differentiation of neural crest-derived cell lineage. AP2α is thought to be required for a number of morphogenetic events including aspects of craniofacial development and midline fusion.
