Definition

The gracile fasciculus is a large bundle of axons running just medial to the cuneate fasciculus. Together the cuneate and gracile fasciculi form the dorsal columns in the dorsal medial part of the spinal cord. The dorsal columns are formed by the axons of neurons in the dorsal root ganglia just outside the spinal cord and carry somatosensory information from the body to the caudal medulla. The gracile fasciculus carries information from the legs and the lower trunk.
