Zusammenfassung

Begann als unbedeutender Dichter in Ghazna; zog kurz nach 1114/15 nach Balch, lebte dort und in anderen Städten des damaligen Chorasan (Herat, Nischapur); in dieser Zeit Wandel zum religiösen Dichter; ca. 1126 Rückkehr nach Ghazna, zog das Interesse des Ghaznavidensultans Bahrām Šāh auf sich, dem er einige seiner Werke widmete; neben den besprochenen Werken ein Diwan (über 13 000 Verse), enthält außer dem ältesten Corpus von Ghaselen in der persischen Literatur ‚zuhdiyāt‘ (asketische Gedichte) und ‚qalandariyāt‘ (in denen die antinomistische Figur des Wanderderwischs, ‚qalandar‘, eine Rolle spielt); Kārnāma-yi Balḫ (Erinnerungen [gesandt aus] Balch); ein profanes episches Gedicht, satirische bzw. panegyrische Beschreibung der Bewohner von Ghazna.
