The Polar marine environments of the Antarctic and NE Greenland seawaters are characterized by an extreme climate and the ecosystems are peculiar and populated by organisms adapted to these extreme climatic conditions. Despite their remoteness and inhospitality, the Polar Regions are affected by human impacts at different degree of damage and these impacts originate directly or indirectly from other regions. The consequences can be unpredictable at a local and global scale too, since the Polar Regions play a key role in the global ecosystem functioning (Rintoul 2019; Constable et al. 2014); they also regulate the global climate which is responsible of ecological alterations regionally (Constable et al. 2014) and worldwide including the transport, distribution (Cabrerizo et al. 2013), and bioaccumulation of persistent pollutants.
