Definition

Labor migrants are defined by the International Labor Organization as international migrants who are currently employed or unemployed and looking for employment in their current country of residence (2015). Meanwhile, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs – Statistical Division (2017) has defined them as foreigners admitted by a receiving State specifically to work or perform an economic activity and be compensated within such a host country. The length of stay of these labor migrants is usually restricted by the type of employment that they can do. Depending on the host country’s regulations, their dependents are also included in this category.
