Definition

Applied education emphasizes the importance of learning by engaging in direct application of skills, theories, and models. The knowledge and skills are acquired in hands-on and/or real-world context. Applied education is often solution-oriented; through problem-based projects, independent or directed research, and internship, students can apply their learning to actual situations for problem-solving. Many applied learning activities occur outside of traditional classrooms, but some can be performed in-classroom.
