Definition

Quality of life outcome (QoLO) is a kind of method which regards QoL as one outcome measurement in physical, mental, social function, especially well-being, and happiness and/or satisfaction.

Description

Outcome variables are used for evaluating the endpoint of a study or research. They can be objective, such as laboratory measurements, as well as subjective, self-assessment questionnaire, for example. Quality of life (QoL) is a subjective, multidimensional concept; it has some advantages as outcome variables in many areas. It was first used in assessing the effectiveness and relative merits of different treatments of medical practice and research studies, and then it was used in more areas, such as policy making and assessing variation in QOL across different cultures, to compare subgroups within the same culture and to measure change across time in response to change in life circumstances.
