Definition
Quality of Life (QOL) and well-being (WB) are multidimensional concepts that measure objective and subjective life conditions of individuals or societies (Rapley 2003; Shu and Zhu 2014). Philosophers in both the East and West believe that well-being is not only about seeking pleasure, but also about “striving for perfection that represents the realization of one’s true potential” (Bruni 2010, p. 391). The World Health Organization (2019) defines QOL as “individuals’ perception of their position in life in the context of the culture and value systems in which they reside and in respect of their goals, expectations, standards and concerns.” Quality of life contains a full range of objective factors that make life worth living, including financial, material, interpersonal, and environmental, as well as physical and mental health aspects (Stiglitz et al. 2009)....
