Definition

A systematic change is needed in built environment education to respond to current challenges for low-carbon futures. The impact of sustainability, climate change, resilience, adaptation, mitigation, resource efficiency, and all such interrelated factors in the built environment calls for a renewed focus on the body of knowledge that has to date focused only on traditional approaches to built environment planning, design, and operation. Graduates of built environment programs need to be able to take proactive action to achieve low-carbon futures.
