Definitions
Health security: the branch of security concerned with the impact of factors that threaten health and human safety on a societal and global scale.
Introduction
In 2020, scientists and researchers are working around the clock to understand the cause and transmission of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV, or COVID-19) after it was first detected in Wuhan City, China, in late 2019. Despite the focus on an emerging and rapidly evolving situation, little has been done to address the implications of the spread of the coronavirus on national security. The 2020 reactive response to identifying and isolating known and suspected infected individuals has not proven effective, with cases of the coronavirus reported worldwide. While some countries have closed borders and applied travel restrictions, there appears to be no systematic, rapid response approach to doing so.
