Abstract
The platform economy is the buzzword in today’s world. Platform worker, particularly the transportation sector, is affecting the daily life of people in cities around the world. It started with great promise for the actors, the drivers, and there was a rush to join. Gradually the drivers realized the power of the operators and how they control the whole business without taking much responsibility. Resentment started, across the world. The cry for an institution to raise their voices is very loud. In this context the present chapter examines the legitimacy of forming a union by the gig drivers. It is argued that while there is a need to bring the drivers under a union, a lot need to be done to gain the trust of both the drivers and the users in its value of delivering social justice.
