Desmoid tumor is a soft tissue neoplasm which falls under the more broad classification of fibromatosis. It arises principally in soft tissue and rarely in the pleura.
Although typically benign, desmoid tumor can be locally aggressive with a tendency to recur and is therefore considered a primary pleural neoplasm of intermediate malignant potential. Desmoid tumor is not known to metastasize; however, infiltration into adjacent organs and blood vessels may result in morbidity and mortality.
