Collagen vascular diseases are a complex group of systemic inflammatory diseases generally considered autoimmune in etiology. Current data supports that these result from the interplay of genetic factors, autoantibodies, immune complexes, hormones, and other factors.

This disease group includes systemic lupus erythematosus (hyperlink), rheumatoid arthritis (hyperlink), progressive systemic sclerosis (hyperlink), polymyositis/dermatomyositis (hyperlink), Sjögren syndrome (hyperlink), overlap syndromes such as mixed connective tissue disease (hyperlink), undifferentiated connective tissue disease, and others.
