Reduplication delusion

Definition

Delusions are defined as false beliefs based on incorrect inference about external reality, and firmly sustained in spite of the opinions of others or contrary evidence (American Psychiatric Association 1987). Reduplicative paramnesia (RP) is the delusion that a place familiar to the patient exists in two or more physical locations simultaneously. The earliest description of RP was long thought to be by Pick (1903). He described a patient who claimed that Pick’s clinic in Prague had a duplicate in another city. However, Forstl and Beats (1992) discovered that Charles Bonnet, the Swiss natural scientist and philosopher, had reported a case over a century earlier in 1788.

Categorization
