Definition

The glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is a tumor of the central nervous system and is the most common adult brain tumor. It is a rapidly growing glioma, which is invasive, structurally undifferentiated (anaplastic), and undergoing mitotic division. It is graded at levels III or IV to indicate high malignancy. GBM may occur anywhere in the central nervous system. It accounts for about 15–20% of all intracranial tumors, 55% of all gliomas, and 90% of all cerebral gliomas (Fig. 1).
