Description

The neuropsychological assessment battery (NAB; Stern and White 2003) is a comprehensive battery of 33 tests, developed using classical test theory, which has been standardized for use with individuals ages 18–97. The structure of the NAB allows for it to be used in either a fixed or flexible capacity. The NAB contains six “modules,” each with a specific function. Five modules (the “main modules”) provide a comprehensive assessment of one of five major cognitive domains: attention, language, memory, spatial skills, and executive functioning, while the screening module briefly samples each of the five content domains using slightly different, abbreviated versions of tests from the five main modules. Each main module contains 4–6 tests, while the screening module includes 12 tests. In the flexible battery approach, the results of the screening module can be used to make decisions about the cognitive abilities that require more comprehensive evaluation with the...
