Introduction
In a time when humans were the only species in the world to make tools, naming conventions of study subjects were restricted to numbers, and women in science were few and far between, Jane Goodall stepped onto African soil and changed the way we thought about animals, the environment, and ourselves. Goodall spent over 20 years researching the chimpanzees in Gombe to discover groundbreaking facts about their previously elusive behavior, and, perhaps even more alluring to the public, their social relationships, individual personalities, and emotions.
