Abstract

Atomically precise graphene nanoribbons promise to combine the outstanding electronic properties of graphene with an electronic bandgap that is sufficiently large for digital-logic applications at room temperature. After a brief introduction to nanoribbon nomenclature, experimental synthesis, and characterization, this chapter guides through the theoretical toolbox available for modeling their electronic structure, starting from simple empirical models and ending with state-of-the-art ab initio methods.
