Introduction

Robert-Jay Green has been a prominent figure in the field of couple and family therapy research and is best known as a pioneer in bridging couple and family therapy and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) psychology. His research also has addressed the measurement of family processes, the impact of family relations on children’s academic achievement, male gender role socialization, and couple and family therapy (CFT).

Career

Green completed his undergraduate studies in psychology at Case Western Reserve University (BA, 1970), his graduate studies in clinical psychology at Michigan State University (PhD, 1975), and a postdoctoral fellowship in family psychology in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Rochester School of Medicine (1975–1977). In 1977, Green joined the faculty of the California Graduate School of Marital and Family Therapy (1977–1985).
