Introduction
Richard Heyman, Ph.D., is the co-director of the Family Translational Research Group at New York University. Dr. Heyman, a professor and clinical psychologist, is a leader in the field of identifying risk factors of couple dysfunction, escalation/de-escalation of anger and prevention of family violence, and has developed reliable classification systems for defining types of maltreatment as well as couples observational coding.
Career
Dr. Heyman received his B.S. in psychology at Duke University, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of Oregon. He completed his clinical internship at the Eastern Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute/Medical College of Pennsylvania. Upon finishing his doctorate in 1992, Heyman was awarded a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at the State University of New York at Stony Brook (SUNY Stony Brook).
