Virginia Goldner, Ph.D. (1945).
Introduction
Virginia Goldner is an important figure in contemporary psychotherapy because of her contributions to the fields of family therapy and psychoanalysis. Goldner combines clinical psychoanalysis, family therapy, and systemic thinking with feminism, postmodernism, and psychoanalytic theory and has been a pioneer in psychoanalytic gender studies.
Career
Goldner received her Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University in 1965 and her Ph.D. from Union Institute in 1977. She also has a certificate in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis from New York University’s (NYU) postdoctoral program. Goldner is the founding editor of Studies in Gender and Sexuality as well as the associate editor of Psychoanalytic Dialogues. She is on the faculty of the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy, the Stephen A.
