Botany and Ecology

A deciduous tree up to 25 m tall, with a bushy crown. The trunk has a wavy surface and smooth gray bark. Winter buds are 10 mm long, narrow, and pressed against branchlets. Leaves have a base often rounded or heart-shaped, a pointed tip and with usually 10–12 strong veins. Leaves that first emerge from bud are folded along their veins. Leaf margins sharply double- toothed....
