Abstract
Gardenias are a very important crop for both potted flowers for the florist trade and the landscape industries. Gardenias are susceptible to root rot, and the most common and damaging pathogens include Phytophthora and Rhizoctonia. One of the most devastating diseases affecting gardenias is canker caused by Diaporthe gardeniae, which can lead to unsightly cankers and galls on the lower stem causing plant decline and eventual death. Several leaf spot pathogens are reported on gardenia with Myrothecium and Xanthomonas being among the most common. Disease management practices for gardenia depend on good sanitation, judicious use of pesticides, and cultural practices.
