The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009 is a law that addresses the timeframe in which a person can sue for wage discrimination, stating that a discriminatory compensation decision or practice is a discrete act of discrimination each time it occurs, not just when the initial discriminatory compensation decision is made.

Introduction

The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009 was the first piece of legislation signed into law by President Barack Obama. Although the name of the law sounds like it addresses equal pay, it actually only addresses the timeframe in which one can sue for wage discrimination.
