Definition
Acinar cystic transformation (ACT) is a nonneoplastic cystic lesion of the pancreas lined by acinar, ductal, and/or metaplastic epithelium.
Clinical Features
Incidence
This lesion is extremely rare, with less than 50 cases reported in the literature.
Age
ACT is observed in a broad age range (9–83 years) with a mean age of 43–52 years (Bergmann et al. 2014; Khor et al. 2012; McEvoy et al. 2010; Singhi et al. 2013; Wang et al. 2016; Zamboni et al. 2002; Zhang et al. 2017).
Sex
ACT occurs more frequently in females than in males with a ratio of about 3:1 (Bergmann et al. 2014; Khor et al. 2012; McEvoy et al. 2010; Singhi et al. 2013; Wang et al. 2016; Zamboni et al. 2002; Zhang et al. 2017).
Site
The pancreatic head is more frequently affected than the body-tail (3:2); a diffuse involvement of the pancreas is described as well.
Treatment
The clinical management of ACT is controversial. Since it is a benign lesion, it can be cured by surgical...
