Andrey Pervozvanny – the first Russian scientific research. It was named after one of the twelve Apostles, St. Andrew, an angler, who together with St. Peter were the first-called disciple of Jesus Christ. The ship was built in 1899 at the Bremer Vulcan shipbuilding company (Germany). Her displacement is 410 tonnes, length is 46 m, steam power is 328 kW, speed is 11 knots (20 km/h), and operational range is up to 3700 miles (6500 km). She was the first well-equipped vessel to conduct scientific fishery research. The ship belongs to the Committee for the Aid to Pomors of the Russian North. From May 1899, the ship started to operate in the Barents Sea under command of Professor Nikolai Knipovich. In 1909, the ship joined the Murmansk Fishery-Research Expedition that conducted hydrophysical research on the coasts of the White and the Barents seas.
