Aibulatov, Nikolai Aleksandrovich (1930–2008) – was a Soviet oceanologist, PhD (1956), Professor (1999). In 1954, he graduated from the Faculty of Geography at the Moscow State University. From 1954 to 1975, A. worked for the Yujnyi Department of the P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology. From 1975 to 2005, he worked for the P.P. Shirshov Institute of the Oceanology, Russian Academy of Sciences (IO RAS) in Moscow. From 1987 to 2005, A. was a head of the Shelf and Seacoasts Laboratory named after V.P. Zenkovich. His field of scientific interest was investigating dynamics of sedimentary materials and contaminants on shelf, geoecology of this zone, and seacoasts. He participated in more than 40 expeditions to different seas of the world.
