Vankina Guba (Bay)

Vankina Guba (Bay) – situated in the eastern part of the Laptev Sea to the south of Ebelyakh Bay which is separated from it by the Shirokostan Peninsula. It is shallow (up to 17 m), 6–18 km wide. The Khaarstan and the Chokurdakh rivers and many small creeks flow into it. The area of the bay is about 350 km². The water area is fringed with vast foreshores and beaches up to 5 km wide. In the north the bay is separated from the sea by a submerged shoal, by the continuation of the foreshore spit of Cape Nerpichiy, in the west, and by a submerged bar about 7 km long. Certain areas of the shore demonstrate abrasion processes, in the northern part their total length comprises about 19 km and in the south 11 km.
