New Siberian Islands (Novosibirskiye Ostrova) – an archipelago in the eastern part of the Arctic Ocean on the border of the Laptev and East Siberian Seas (frequently called the Archipelago of the two seas), north of the Asian coast between the mouths of the rivers Yana and Kolyma, the Republic of Sakha-Yakutia, Russia. N.S.I. are separated from the coast of East Siberia by Laptev Strait. The Archipelago is located within the continental shelf. Its length from west to east is 700 km, and the total area is approx. 36,000 km2. The Archipelago consists of three groups of islands. The southern group consist of Lyakhovsky Blizhniy Islands (Big and Small Lyakhovsky Islands) and Stolbovoy Island.
