Enurmino

Enurmino – is a small Chukchi settlement on the shore of the Chukchi Sea in the area of the Northern Pole Circle, located near Cape Serdtse-Kamen’, Chukchi Autonomous Okrug, Russia. The population is 315 people, exclusively Chukchi. The main occupation is hunting. The settlement was formed in the 1950s as the result of resettling of the Chukchi families from the neighboring nomad camps. There are about 50 one-story houses. The Arctic station Cape Netten is 3 km to the northwest, on the shore, and 60 km further there is another settlement, Neshkan. A tremendous walrus breeding ground is located near Enurmino, on narrow pebble beaches, hidden between rocky cliffs. The shallow coastal waters deny the sea vessels the opportunity to approach the shore. All the provisions are delivered by helicopters or, less often, on small barges.
