Chukotka Flaw Polynya – forms in some years with easterly and southeasterly winds along the coast of the Chukchi Sea. It is 10–15 miles in width, but it extends for a long distance and is filled with intermittent ice patches and arches of ice concentration of various widths. With northwesterly and northerly onsetting winds, the polynya closes rapidly. It is used for the passage of vessels.
