AI and business ethics


In recent years, the technological developments concerning artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, computer science, and the Internet of Things (IoT) and the ongoing fusion of the physical, digital, and biological worlds (the Fourth Industrial Revolution), all in the context of the so-called metaverse, have had – and continue to have – a widespread and profound impact on all areas of human society (Gordon and Nyholm 2021; Müller 2020). This entry will examine some of the main issues related to the effect of AI on business ethics with a particular focus on its negative impacts.Footnote 1

Preliminary Remarks

AI is the main driving force and the very foundation of increasing possibilities in technology-related areas of human societies. But what is AI? One scholarly definition is offered by Copeland (2020), who describes it as follows:
