Introduction

Robert Emery has been one of the leading researchers and authors in the areas of interparental conflict, divorce, and mediation for the past 30 years. He has spent most of his professional career as a professor of psychology at The University of Virginia, teaching, conducting research, and leading a highly productive lab of graduate students. He has authored over 150 scientific publications, and several books, including Marriage, Divorce, and Children’s Adjustment, Renegotiating Family Relationships: Divorce, Child Custody, and Mediation, and his guides for parents, The Truth about Children and Divorce: Dealing with the Emotions So You and Your Children Can Thrive & Two Homes, One Childhood: A parenting Plan to Last a Lifetime. He is also the coauthor of Abnormal Psychologywith Dr. Thomas Oltmanns, a text widely used by undergraduate psychology departments.
