Alan S. Gurman.
Introduction
At the time of his death in 2013, Alan S. Gurman, PhD, was an emeritus faculty member at the University of Wisconsin Medical School in the Department of Psychiatry. He was a fellow of three divisions of the American Psychological Association (APA): 12 (Society of Clinical Psychology), 29 (Society for the Advancement of Psychotherapy), and 43 (Society for Couple and Family Psychology). He was also board certified through the American Board of Professional Psychology in Couple and Family Psychology. Dr. Gurman held a number of key national leadership roles, the most significant of which was serving as President of the Society for Psychotherapy Research. He also was on the Board of Directors of a number of organizations, most notably the Family Process Institute, the Society of Couple and Family Psychology, and the American Family Therapy Academy.
