Introduction

While self of the therapist (also known as person of the therapist) training is an essential component in various therapeutic training programs across disciplines; it holds central importance for therapists training to become couple and family therapists. Early family therapy theorists such as Salvador Minuchin emphasized the need for therapists to join the family system so as to assist the family or couple to change from within the system (Minuchin 1974). This joining is a dynamic and adaptable process that requires a therapist to not only assess and intervene in a family system but to move with, respond to, restructure, and constantly change family systems.
